Jofra Archer who took top order wickets deserved the POTM instead of
Adil Rashid who took tailenders wickets.
Jofra Archer
3.2 1 12 3
Adil Rashid
4 0 11 4
HOW the fuck can they be SO DUMB when it's so STRAIGHTFORWARD?
You could also make a case for Wood. He and Archer each took 3 wickets,
6 of the top 7 between them.
Wood also took a catch (off his own bowling), and only required
assistance from a team-mate for one of his wickets.
Post by John HallRashid did bowl beautifully, and from what
little we saw of the Oman batsmen their top order didn't seem to be much
more capable than their tail-enders. But I suspect that the adjudicator
may have been one of those who takes the easy way out and just gives the
award to the bowler with the best figures.
It was kind of England to win so quickly. Had the match gone the full
forty overs, it wouldn't have finished till about 11:30 UK time, which
is well after my bedtime.
Since it's hard to see Namibia beating England or Scotland beating
Australia (I don't think Australia's wish to see England eliminated is
THAT strong, even disregarding the penalty if they were seen as having
thrown the match), the main threat to England qualifying is the weather,
as I suggested a day or two ago. If either England v Namibia or
Australia v Scotland in a no-result, then England will be out.
Rain, and the lack of reserve days, will ultimately have ensured the
elimination of the winner of the Pakistan/Ireland match (or
theoretically Canada, in the extremely unlikely event that they thrash
India). It may also end up eliminating Sri Lanka and Nepal, if SL beat
Netherlands and Nepal beat Bangladesh, which, given how close Nepal ran
South Africa, is a distinct possibility.
In the England/Scotland group, even if there are no more no-results, it
will have ensured the elimination of at least one of Scotland, England
and Namibia.
