Greg and Ian Chappel both made 100s in both innings against NZ at
Wellington on 1-3-1974

The only other instance was Azhar Ali and Misbah-ul-Haq v Aus at Abu Dhabi in 2014/15

i thought it had happened before and should have remembered the chappels - is that the only
case of brothers scoring 100 in each innings of FC match?

i remember alec stewart doing the double against the windies in barbados but now i've
found the relevant wiki page

No. Tip and Wilfrid Foster did it for Worcs v Hants at New Road in 1899.
I don't know if there are any other cases.

No. Tip and Wilfrid Foster did it for Worcs v Hants at New Road in 1899.
I don't know if there are any other cases.

I have confirmed that that is the only other case. It was actually the
first case of two players making twin 100s in the same FC match.

The only other cases for the same side in FC matches are:

Cec Dacre and Wally Hammond, Glos v Worcs, New Road, 1933
Jack Badcock and Ron Hamence, S Aus v Vic, MCG, 1940/41
Uday Merchant and Dattu Phadkar, Bombay v Maharashtra, Poona, 1948/49
(when Madhusudan Rege also made 2 100s for Maharashtra)
Regis Chakabva and Malcolm Waller, Zim A v Ireland, Harare, 2015/16

Yes, out of 19 matches when he scored a century in the first innings:

12 times Australia only batted once
Once Australia won by 10 wickets, so he didn't bat in the 2nd innings
Once he finished on 37* in a 5-wicket win after Australia used 2
nightwatchmen to open the innings.
3 times when he did bat and was out, Australia needed too few runs
anyway (72, 105 and 98).

That leaves just 2 matches in which he had a realistic chance of a 2nd
century:

The Oval 1934, when he was top-scorer with 77.
Melbourne 1947/48 v India, when he made 127*.
