I just noticed an old story from 2020
https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/1683188/glamorgan-legend-alan-jones-awarded-england-cap

So at 82 Alan Jones got his test cap for his only test in 1970 vs RoW.
But didnt thy give it to him in 1970? AIUI in 1970 these were official
tests and remained so until the ICC removed their status as they hadnt
officially sanctioned them unlike the later one in 2005? between oz and
RoW.

Personally i think all 3 of the RoW series, 1970, 1971-2 in oz and 1973
in pakistan should be recognised. It would mean some adjustment in the
stats, particularly for Massie record on debut, which wouldnt be on
debut anymore, and Lillee who took 8-29 in one of these tests. When you
look who played for these RoW teams in 1970 and 71, these were probably
among the strongest teams ever assembled.

Yes, you'd have thought that they'd have given him a cap at the time.
And it's hard to believe that a few years, when the ICC ruled that the
matches didn't count as Tests, the TCCB would have said: "Please would
you give us your cap back."

I agree. That RoW side in 1970 - which is naturally the one I remember
best - was awesome, and it's to England's credit that they didn't lose
5-0.

That was supposed to read "after a few years", as you may have guessed.
