I'd completly forgotten about the champions trophy in pakistan & UAE.
Instead of a test series we get lots of pyjama cricket. Curran Jacks &
Topley all gone, Root returns to odi. Think Salty and joverton are lucky
to continue. Salt has a fine record against windies, but pretty rubbish
against anyone else. Wood comes back to test out elbow. Big chance for
ahmed to show if hes really upto perf Rashid role, but a bit strange
that having taken 3 spinners to NZ test tour, theres just Rashid in the
odi. True they have root, the doc and ethel to fill in, but no
specialist finger spinner seems odd.

England squad for T20 series in India: Jos Buttler (Captain), Rehan
Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon
Carse, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith, Liam Livingstone, Adil
Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, Mark Wood

Given that Curran did well against WI in the ODI series just gone, he
seems unlucky to be omitted. I'm also surprised that Jacks has been left
out, since he could have provded some finger spin as well as his
batting.

Meanwhile, stokes will need surgery on the hamstring he injured in the
3rd test, another long 3 months to recover. Really quite unnecessary to
bowl 23 overs on that 1st day just to lead by example after he made the
wrong decision at the toss. I cant see him bowling again, and hopefully
not like that. Repeated injuries at his age and diminishing returns, its
yet not as bad as bothams final years, but it does seem reminiscent.

Unfortunately this time he's torn the hamstring and needs an op, whereas
last time he "only" pulled it. It wouldn't really matter if he missed
the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, and luckily the series against India
doesn't start till 20th June, by which time hopefully he will be fit -
to bat at least.

I suspect he will insist on bowling again, and he never seems as
effective as a batsman when he's unable to bowl, but hopefully he will
show some sense and not try to bowl any spells longer than four or five
overs, and if necessary wait till nearer the end of the India series
before turning his arm over.
